Make sure the I.P. address for the router and modem are different. Mine are 192.168.2.1 for router and 192.168.1.1 for modem. I solved the issue by putting my routers connection type into dynamic and hey presto I could now access my modem.
Worst case scenario, you have to use the “reset” button on the back of the router to reset the unit to default settings, then retry the above steps.
